I Lost A Friend Yesterday

She was quite a bit older than me. I was in gradeschool when her husband stepped in as President. Although we never formally met I always thought of Lady Bird Johnson as my friend.

I have visited her parks, her Wildflower Center in Austin, bought her book, and even named my dog after her. I've always been a big fan of this small Texas woman.

As a young child she connected with flowers and gardens as a means of feeling connected to her mother who passed away.

She carried that love of growing beautiful things on into her adult life. Her hard work is why we can enjoy the beautiful wildflower strewn highways.

I know she and her mother are enjoying a sweet reunion and I bet its in one of God's favorite gardens.
